Frequently Asked Questions
What is TWiG?
TWiG is an abbreviation of The Wilderness Grove and will be used on some of our documentation.
What will I need to bring?
For any of our sessions you will need to wear or bring appropriate clothing depending of the weather. Sturdy footwear is a must! Parts of our woodland are very wet under foot so if your footwear is not water proof wellies might be necessary. Tea and coffee are available and we ask for a small donation to keep the supplies topped up. You may want to bring snacks for little ones.
Are there toilets and hand washing facilities?
We have a composting toilet on site and hand washing facilities however there is no running water or electricity. Please bring your own hand towel to use on site.
How do you keep everyone safe and informed?
All accompanying adults will be asked to read through our handbook. Essential information and contact details will be taken and stored securely. All customers will be kept updated on any news via phone or email. Regular updates will be posted on social media.
Are the dogs always on the site?
Our Forest School dogs are usually on site however the needs of our customers are paramount, and the dogs can be contained and kept away from anyone who feels nervous around animals. We aim to have only 1 dog onsite at a time, so they are able to concentrate on their work. We aim to work with our customers to give them confidence around the dogs and will work sensitively to everyone's needs.
Who will be in the woodlands?
Our Forest School leaders Cate Regi and/or Tom Wild will run the site and all sessions. We will also have a range of volunteers working with us. All our team have DBS certificates and are qualified to lead in assigned tasks.
We often have child helpers on site. The children are trusted reliable members of our team who are there to initiate and supervise play.
What happens if it rains/snow/storms?
Forest School will continue in most types of weather with the exception of high winds, thunder and severe cold.
What happens if sessions are cancelled or I need to cancel?
In the unlikely event that the Forest School leader needs to cancel a session they will call you directly on the contact number you have provided when you initially visit the Wilderness Grove and/or email. You will not be charged for the session.
If you need to tell us, you are unable to come we will need to know 7 days in advance to avoid charge. If given 7 days' notice the payment will carry over and a credit note given.
On booking a place at The Wilderness Grove you will be asked to complete some information and consent forms. Please bring these with you on your first session or email them.
Please have a look at the handbook as it should answer most questions.
