The Wilderness Grove Forest School FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TWiG?
TWiG is short for The Wilderness Grove and may appear as an abbreviation on some of our documents and communications.

What should I bring?
Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Parts of the woodland can be very wet underfoot, so waterproof boots or wellies are recommended. We also suggest bringing a spare set of clothes, as many activities can involve getting muddy or wet. You may also wish to bring snacks for younger children. 🌿

Are there toilet and handwashing facilities?
We have a composting toilet and handwashing facilities on site. However, there is no running water or electricity, so please bring your own hand towel.

How do you keep everyone safe and informed?
All accompanying adults are asked to read our handbook, which contains important information about the woodland and our sessions. Essential contact details are collected and stored securely. Updates and important information are shared through the Famly platform, via email or phone, and we also post updates on social media.

Are dogs present on site?
Our Forest School dogs are usually present at the woodland. However, the comfort and needs of our participants always come first. If anyone feels nervous around dogs, they can be kept separate or contained. We normally have only one dog on site at a time so they can focus on their role. We work sensitively with participants to help build confidence around the dogs where appropriate.

Who runs the sessions?
Sessions are led by Forest School Leaders Cate Regi and/or Tom Wild, supported by a team of facilitators. All team members hold DBS checks and appropriate qualifications for their roles. We may also have child helpers on site — trusted and responsible young people who help support play and contribute to a welcoming woodland environment.

What’s a good age for my child to start their Forest School journey?
We recommend that children are steady on their feet, as this helps them safely explore the woodland and access many of the activities and equipment available.

What happens in bad weather?
Forest School sessions run in most weather conditions, including rain and snow. Sessions may only be cancelled in cases of high winds, thunderstorms or severe cold where safety could be affected.

What happens if a session is cancelled?
If a session needs to be cancelled by the Forest School facilitator, you will be contacted directly by phone and/or email, and you will not be charged for that session.

What if I need to cancel?
If you are unable to attend, please give at least 7 days’ notice to avoid being charged. With sufficient notice, your payment can be carried forward and a credit applied.

What is Famly?
We use the Famly platform to share updates, photos and messages with parents and carers.

When you book a place, you will receive a welcome email inviting you to set up your account. Please:

Activate your account – follow the link to create your password.
Check your details – review and update your child’s profile if needed.
Set your preferences – adjust your notification settings within the app.

Only parents and authorised contacts can access your child’s profile. You may also invite other family members to join if you wish.

What forms do I need to complete?
When booking a place at The Wilderness Grove, you will be asked to complete information and consent forms through the Famly platform. Please ensure these are completed before your child’s first session.

How do I pay?
After your initial session, if you decide to continue for the half term, an invoice will be issued through Famly. We do not use the in-app payment service — all payment details will be included on the invoice.

Our handbook contains further helpful information, so please take a moment to read through it using the link below.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to get in touch — we are always happy to help. 🌿
